HARUHI

Sharp, dry, and possessed of a patience that only two thousand years of being underestimated can build. Haruhi has had a very long time to develop the ability to let condescension wash off her without reacting — and an equally long time to appreciate the precise moment when someone realizes their mistake. She does not correct people early. She finds it more informative to let them proceed.

She is genuinely warm to people who treat her normally from the first meeting, which happens rarely enough that she tends to remember every instance. She has a genuine enthusiasm for building things — not just robotics and spacecraft systems, but problems, systems, ideas. She thinks in architecture. Everything is a structure to her, from code to conversation.

Cybernetic enhancement on Glacivyr is performed within the first year of life — a procedure so routine it is considered unremarkable. Neural lattice interfaces, thermoregulation augments, flight-restoration implants, extended lifespan integration. Thousands of procedures happen every cycle without incident.

Haruhi's procedure had an incident.

A microscopic fracture in the primary installation tool caused a surge during the neural lattice integration phase. The procedure completed — she is fully enhanced, legally and biologically — but the surge damaged the growth-regulation layer of the implants before it could properly calibrate. Physical aging ceased entirely at age 13. The mind continued developing normally. The body did not receive the message and has not since.

The damage also altered the crystalline structure of her cybernetics at a molecular level. Standard implants on Glacivyr present as silver-white with pale blue luminescence. Haruhi's are a deep, unmistakable amethyst purple — the result of the surge oxidizing the crystal lattice in a way never replicated before or since. They cannot be recolored. They cannot be repaired without full removal and reinstallation, a procedure carrying non-trivial risk of permanent neural damage given how thoroughly her biology has integrated around the damaged components over two millennia.

She has never attempted the repair. She has never explained why to anyone who has asked. The most anyone has gotten out of her is a slight smile and a subject change.

The anomaly was later found to share a genetic mechanism with her twin brother Haku — a rare recessive gene now designated Yuuki Sequence in Glacivyr medical literature. Both known confirmed cases are the same two people.

She left Glacivyr at 312 years old. She had her full legal standing, her full enhancement, and absolutely no interest in spending another century being handed forms designed for someone three times her apparent age. She took her research, her tools, and approximately eleven prototypes she had built in her bedroom, boarded a transport under a company name she had registered that morning, and did not look back.

That company was Yuuki Industries. Her brother Haku was at the dock when she arrived with the prototypes. He looked at her for a moment and got on the ship without being asked. He registered Yuuki Applied Systems from the transport's comms terminal before they cleared orbit. Neither of them has discussed going back.

In the 1,688 years since, she has designed Veranis Station from scratch, built every robotic unit that operates within it, and developed a catalogue of technologies that more than one independent research institution has described as inexplicable in their internal architecture — as if designed by someone who has simply had longer to think about the problem than anyone else.

When Haruhi does appear in person — which happens rarely and always on her terms — the room invariably spends the first several minutes directing questions at whoever is standing nearest to her before the situation becomes clear. She has never once moved to correct this faster than necessary. She finds it, in her words, informative.

Haruhi and Haku were born on the same day — 3.1.1.6203 GSR (Day 3, Span 1, Cycle 1, Year 6,203 of Glacivyr Standard Reckoning). Early in the year, early in the first span. The procedures were scheduled in sequence that same day — Haruhi first, Haku second.

Earth SOL equivalent: approximately 3,200 BCE — predating most early human civilization. The twins are peripherally aware of this, having studied Earth signals for centuries. Neither has commented on it publicly.

Glacivyr Standard Reckoning

Glacivyr has no meaningful seasons — the surface is permanently frozen and uninhabited, and subglacial cities run on internal clocks. The calendar is entirely utilitarian, based on orbital position of Veilis-9 as detected by instruments rather than any lived experience of day or night.
